Our trip starts in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. We will visit various places, attend the technological process of winemaking and taste the desired wine. You will be able to enjoy the beauty of Borjomi-Kharagauli Forest Park and taste this unique mineral water on the spot. The trip ends in Kutaisi, where we will see the Bagrati Cathedral – 11th-century architecture and UNESCO site Gelati Monastery complex – founded in the 12th century.

Itenerary

Day 1 - Tbilisi

The Old Town and the New City. We begin our trip to the compact area of Old Tbilisi. Starting at the church of Metekhi, we walk to the brick domes of sulfur baths and then on to the Narikala fortress – overlooking Mtkvari river gorge. The next stop will be the "Great Synagogue", the Sioni and Anchiskhati churches. After visiting the treasury of the National Museum of Georgia, we take a walk along Rustaveli Avenue – the main street in Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the third biggest Orthodox Church in the world. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 - Mtskheta - Djvari Monastery - Gori – Uplistsikhe

After breakfast in the hotel, we visit the ancient capital – Mtskheta, and see its historical sites: Jvari monastery (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli cathedral (11th century). Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Then we visit Gori. Explore Joseph Stalin museum featuring the original house where he was born, and his private armored train carriage. Continue to Uplistsikhe (“Fortress of God”). Uplistsikhe is located on the left bank of Mtkvari River and is notable for its unique combination of various styles of rock-cut cultures and the co-existence of pagan and Christian architecture. Arrive in Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 - Ananuri fortress, Zhinvali Reservoir - Gudauri - Kazbegi - Church of the Trinity of Gergeti

 After breakfast in the hotel, we drive north along the well-known Georgian Military Road. On the way, we visit Ananuri – a 17th-century complex. An exciting drive from Gudauri along the Tergi River will take us to Kazbegi – the main town in the region. From Kazbegi, drive with 4 WD vehicles to Gergeti Trinity church located at 2170m. In good weather, you can see one of the highest glaciers in the Caucasus – the mountain Kazbegi (5047m). Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 4 - Sighnaghi - Bodbe - Velistsikhe - Kvareli – Telavi

In the morning, you will set off to the very East of Georgia to the Kakheti region, you will visit Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking where you will have wine degustation. After this, you will visit the lovely city of Sighnaghi. The most romantic city of Georgia is famous for its old Georgian architectural style, amazing views of Alazani Valley, and the longest castle wall in Georgia. You will have a short excursion in Sighnaghi. Your next stop will be in Bodbe where you will see the Bodbe Monastery. This monastery is an important holy place as it is where Saint Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th Century, is buried.  After that, you will go down to Alazani valley and reach the wine village of Velistsikhe. You will visit the "Numisi" winery. It is a 500-year-old cellar and a museum. You will see every instrument, which is used in the wine-making process. A museum guide will tell you about the technology, how qvevri wine was made by ancestors of Georgian people, and how they managed to keep that technology and make wine in the same way today. After we will explore "Khareba Winery" which is Georgia’s largest wine cellar – 7.7 km of tunnels and galleries that maintain a constant temperature of 12-14 degrees C and 70% relative humidity all year round. It is a perfect storage condition for wine. Here you will visit a tunnel and have wine degustation. Overnight in Telavi.

Day 5 - Tsinandali (Wine tasting + oenological masterclass) - Gremi - Ujarma

After breakfast in the hotel, we will visit Alaverdi, where you will see one of the greatest cathedrals in Georgia – the Alaverdi cathedral from the XI c. You will visit the Gremi Citadel and Church of the Archangels - built in the 16th century. Then we drive to Tsinandali, the residence of dukes of Georgia with a beautiful English garden, a museum, and the wine cellar that belonged to prince Chavchavadze, a 19th-century famous poet. On the way back to Tbilisi we will visit the ancient Ujarma fortress, which was built in the III century, the fortress was an important trade and administrative center of the area till the VII century when it was invaded by Arabs. Located on the hill at the Iori river bank, Ujarma is surrounded by forests. After visiting the Ujarma fortress we will drive to Tbilisi by Gombori pass. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 6 - Borjomi (Borjomi-Kharagauli Forest Park Walking, Horse Riding or Quadro Tour) - Akhaltsikhe

After breakfast in the hotel, we visit the resort Borjomi. Borjomi is famous for its mineral water industry (which is the number one export of Georgia). You will be able to taste mineral water in Borjomi Park. Then we go to Akhaltsikhe where you will visit the fortress of Rabat. Rabati Castle is a medieval structure in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, which dates back to the 13th century. The castle complex covers a mosque, a minaret, a synagogue, a Christian church, a palace, a citadel, landscaped gardens, vineyards on terraces, outdoor pools with fountains, a history museum, a hotel, a restaurant, souvenir, and wine shops.

Day 7 - Khertvisi - Vardzia

In the morning, we begin our trip by exploring the cave city Vardzia (12th century). There once were about 3,000 caves and 50,000 people lived there. You visit the church carved into the rock with the old frescoes of the 12th century. After that, you will see Vanis Kvabebi, which was a monastery in the 7th century. The monastery complex provides spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. You will also visit the Khertvisi fortress (10th century). Situated on a high rocky outcrop fortress overlooks the village of Khertvisi at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani Rivers. Evening arrival in Kutaisi.

Day 8 - Prometheus Cave - Sataplia - Kutaisi

Breakfast at the hotel. We are visiting an incredible cave – “SATAPLIA CAVE“, where you can find footprints of ancient animals – Dinosaurs. Sataplia dinosaurs are called “Satapliazaurus” and are different from European dinosaurs. We continue the way to “Prometheus cave” - one of Georgia’s natural wonders providing visitors with breathtaking examples of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, and lakes. After that, we will come back to Kutaisi, which is the second biggest city in Georgia. We will visit Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi – 11th-century architecture and UNESCO site Gelati Monastery complex – founded in the 12th century, where was the first academy in the country, the first big educational center.
